While I still agree that Maddie did a great job, considering her poor training, it’s still important to recognize that she was not at the same level as her competitors. She showed her strengths in the improv, but clearly at the end of the day she is not at the same level as a dancer as everyone else. I’ve taken the past few years to learn more about dance, and I have learned more and more how dumb it was for Abby to enter among all of gods creatures. It was an entertainment piece, had a little technique, and Maddie looked way less advanced than the other girls she was up against. That’s just the truth. I still think she did a great job for what she could do but this was a breath of fresh air because for years Maddie‘s fans would act like she was unmatched in the dance world, but that’s just not true. She lacks great training, she lacks really strong technique and flexibility, she lacks storytelling and control through the body. All she knows is facial expressions that’s just not enough to be considered one of the greatest dancers in the industry. But kudos to her for going out there and giving it a try anyway. I’m sure it was a challenging, but also rewarding and humbling experience for her. Still, Maddie just really commands the stage! And her musicality here was incredible as always! and she always knows how to tell the story with her choices, while incorporating her musicality. Those three things as well as her improved technique really got her this fourth-place win! So proud of her, a girl from Pittsburgh at Abby Lee Dance Company wins 4th out of all of these talented girls at The Dance Awards nationally that's amazing!

Ik I'm super super late but to me Kenzie GAVE ME LIFE, the hairography that maddie and Mackenzie were doing was very intense and Mackenzie stole the show for me bc she was really good cause I keep seeing everyone talkkng about maddie and how she stole the show but I think Kenzie did she was pretty damn good and shes getting better and better at dancing even though she was already amazing

If it wasnt for her name this solo would never have placed 4th at TDA. I love Maddie but Ive also competed in this competition and thats just not a winning solo for this calibre of competition. Its definitely not "dancer of the year" worthy. The costume, choreo and overall theme is just too theatrical and campy and too "on the nose". Also her technique is nowhere near the level of her competitors. I mean she wasnt even taking regular ballet classes at this time (if any technique whatsoever). Shes still a phenomenal dancer, and did great in Sia's music videos and made for fantastic reality tv. Nothijg wring with that, there are all kinds of dancers out there.... with their own styles and particular niches. Its hard to explain if you didnt grow up in the industry. Maddie does have amazing movement quality and is such a hardworke, had greate motives and facials. If she had better teachers, training and regular ballet class, she would've been outstanding but nobody, outside of us dance fanatics would even know her name. EDIT: Also Abbey's training (or lack thereof) really shows. Abby doesn't care about the basics. She cares more about quantity over quality. Alot of Maddie's moves are cheating the sytem, for lack of better words. The final product is there but the foundation is missing. Only through repition, did these girls learn any of their leaps, turnsand ricks ... not because they were properly taught how to do them from the very beingning to end. Abby really did a desservice to these girls, in a way. Look at Kalani and how her dancing abikity plummeted when she started Dance Moms. Its sad how much she regressed and lost all her technique. Not to mention she detroyed their mental heakth and their love of dance. Are any of the cast even dancing anymore??

So Maddie didn’t win first place with this solo like the show put it to be ?

I think for this competition is better to do Vertigo but still she did a fabulous job

Oh my gosh Tate is just so captivating. I couldn’t keep my eyes off her it’s truly insane how she made a instrumental song so suspenseful and ugh it’s just amazing

I always come back to this video because I think is extraordinary... everyone has an amazing technique but in the improv stage only a few of them were actually dancing. Most of them worried more about showing how flexible they were instead of showing emotion and sharing the message of the song.

4th at TDA form an ALDC dancer is amazing! Especially considering they were more of a performance studio over a technical studio imo. Don’t get me wrong, ALDC dancers like maddie have great technique, but others like Tate are AMAZING!

Tate McRae is an example of a dancer who has insane charisma and stage pretense like Maddie, but she emotes through her BODY and she also had incredible technical training and she 100% deserved her win. It’s honestly sick that Maddie fans think she ever deserved first place at an award for kids out of work. Their whole lives at really difficult studios. Maddie is simply not a technical dancer, she has a good technique that’s not amazing. That’s just how it is. She’s a great entertainer, but that’s not enough to win as a prestigious dancer in the industry.

From being on dance moms and going to tea Maddie did amazing but is did anyone realize the name rate McRae

This looks really good but I don’t like the song it sounds weird and I love the dance and costume but he only thing I don’t like is the song

I guess it was in style, but I dont quite understand pieces like Lilly's, Emma's, or Tate's. They are beautiful dancers but that is not really choreography, and the music has no real beginning or end. I appreciate how difficult it is to control your movement like that especially on stage but that should not be the entire piece or it loses meaning and becomes monotone. Just like if everything is big, nothing is big. That talent should be used to show how the body can accentuate the music and tell a story. I find that style to be mostly reaching and posing while instrumental chords exist just to fill the silence in the background. This is not a dig at the dancers but more just my opinion on the style that was given to them. It is certainly a legitimate style of dance and expression, however I dont think it gives the dancer an opportunity to show their musicality, interpretation, or personal style in a competition.

For those of you who don’t know, she had to recorded and repeat this dance 2/3 times because of how it would turn out, if you see the aired version you can hardly see, Bit the confetti thing from her dress is slightly out of the camera lying on the floor. At 0:42 you can see the confetti/colored paper fall of her dress.
